The Industrial Trades programs were designed by industry for industry and undergo annual reviews in order to ensure programs continue to meet industry demand.

The program design offers an innovative, non-traditional style of training which incorporates an open entry open exit format with competency-based modules. Modules are credit-based and may lead to a certificate or an associate in applied science.  Students may even be granted prior experiential learning. 

Open entry open exit means students may start training when they have time and they may complete modules at their own pace. The RMTC is open during the day and evening Monday through Thursday year-round. This training schedule is flexible enough to meet almost any job schedule.

Modules are short, topical  courses—generally between 5 and 25 clock hours in length.   Competency-based means students must master the skills at 80, 90, or 100% competency in order to pass the module. Students either pass or fail modules.  However, students  are allowed to retake failed modules as needed for up to one year at no charge.

Students earn college credit for each module.  For every 24 hours of training, students earn 1 college credit hour. The credit hours and contact hours for each module are listed on the program outlines. Student’s may earn either a certificate or an associate in applied science. Students may be granted credit for prior learning or work experience. Many Industrial Trades students have extensive  knowledge and skills, which may be equivalent  to the knowledge and skills taught at the RMTC.  In these cases students may apply for prior experiential credit. Students should discuss  all prior learning and experience with the RMTC program instructor prior to enrollment.
