These photos are from the first of Kellogg Community College's two home game victories against Kalamazoo Valley Community College at Bailey Park in Battle Creek on April 17, 2012. The victories placed KCC in the No. 1 spot in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association rankings. They generally rank in the top 3.
Coach Eric Laskovy said, when asked who the team leaders were, "We don't have captains this year because we feel like we have a lot of guys capable of leading with lots of returning players on the team now. Everyone needs to learn to take the opportunity to lead." In response to a question about the spring trip, he continued, "The spring trip helps build team chemistry, which is very important. That's one reason we drive, stay at gyms, in bunk beds. We essentially become a big family, and learn to lean on each other when we need each other most."

Many have spent two years working to earn passing grades and maybe gain a few more friends along the way. This spring graduation brings something that means more than a diploma; it means an end to a journey a mother and two daughters took together.
Rita Kerwin, a 1982 graduate of Battle Creek Central, has spent the last year back in the classroom since graduating high school. After being unemployed for three years, Rita decided it was time to make a change, head back to school, and down a different career path. Rita didn't do this alone; she attends KCC with her two daughters, Michelle and Sami. Michelle, a 2008 graduate of Gull Lake High School, and Sami, a 2010 graduate a Gull Lake High School, were supportive of their mother working towards a degree. "Michelle and Sami tell me all the time they are proud of me," Rita said.
