KCC Theatre proudly presents The Skin of Our Teeth
Gary Cuyler
Guest Writer
The Skin of Our Teeth, written by Thorton Wilder, is a Pulitzer Prize winning play written in 1942 and then put on stage in 1943. The play can still deliver a resounding chord in the aftermaths of today's wars and rumors of wars. Once there has been total destruction, what can be done in the rebuilding of mankind? That is what Wilder examines with glacier, a mammoth and a dinosaur in Act One; then in Act Two how does the human race recover after a devastating flood; or in Act Three when the war of all wars leaves us to decide whether rebuilding mankind should even be an option.

Lane-Thomas reconstruction
Raeschelle Phillips
Staff Writer
After a kick-off meeting in April of 2011, reconstruction began on the Lane-Thomas Memorial Building. The project is a reconstruction as well as renovation of the existing structure. KCC is modernizing an older building, striving to make the building as efficient as possible. Kellogg Community College is among the top 5 most efficient community colleges in Michigan and is aiming for the number 1 position, according to Mark O'Connell, Vice President, Administration and Finance.
The renovation portion consists of sprucing up the Police Academy and EMS programs' facilities, existing classrooms, offices, the print shop, and shipping and receiving. More specifically, shipping and receiving is being expanded to accommodate the growth in the ordering of books online.
The expansion portion adds a larger elevator and an enclosed staircase for students who park in the Lane-Thomas parking lot and are heading toward the main building. The enclosed staircase and larger elevator are for the safety of the students who will no longer have to worry about going up and down icy stairs. The expansion will also include office space for Sienna Heights College, more classrooms, and a lobby.
By the end of the reconstruction and expansion, the Lane-Thomas Memorial Building will also house the KCC Bookstore. The renovation of the first floor is ahead of schedule, notes O'Connell, and the whole building is planned for completion before any heavy snowfall.
