Firearms Instructor School

July 17-21, 2017

With classroom and range exercises, this 50-hour course will provide participants with the instructional and diagnostic techniques necessary to teach fundamental skills for both the handgun and shotgun. Participants will also be introduced to instructional methodologies for the patrol rifle and for using reality based training to increase officer survival and improve decision-making skills.

The following equipment should be brought to the training by each participant:

  • Duty Sidearm: Semi-Automatic
  • 3 magazines
  • Duty Belt with Duty Holster
  • Double Magazine Pouch
  • Belt Keepers
  • Flashlight Holder
  • Flashlight (single barrel capable of push button on and off intermittent)
  • Activation
  • 1,000 rounds of handgun ammo
  • Shotgun 12ga Pump or Semi-Auto
  • Ear Protection (ear muff type preferred)
  • Eye Protection (safety glasses, plastic, or prescription lenses)
  • Hat (baseball cap style)
  • Firearms cleaning equipment, lubrication, maintenance tools
  • Clothing for inclement weather

Provided by KCC

  • 1,000 rounds rifle ammo
  • Lunch

Fee: $780/person
This training is eligible for use of 302 funds.

Basic SWAT

This 40-hour course is designed for police officers that have been recently assigned to SWAT or a raid entry team.  During this training, officers will be given the basic skills needed to perform in a tactical position.  The focus will be on the incident command system, teamwork, and working in a high-risk environment in a safe manner.  The tactics taught are internationally accepted with SWAT and Military Special Ops Teams.  Officers will become proficient with tactical situations such as high-risk warrant service, barricaded gunmen, and vehicle takedowns.  They will also be introduced to less common tactical situations such as hostage rescue, active shooter, WMD, and the risks associated with methamphetamine labs.

The following equipment should be brought to the training by each participant:

  • Department issued handgun and rifle, along with sling and holster
  • 500 rounds of handgun ammo
  • 500 rounds of Rifle ammo
  • Tactical Vest with Ammo Pouches
  • Helmet
  • Gas Mask

Fee: $700/person
This training is eligible for use of 302 funds.

Speed Measurement Enforcement

January 20 & February 24, 2018

This two-day course is designed to prepare Michigan police officers for the task of operating traffic speed enforcement devices.  In addition to the operational training, the course provides knowledge that is required for related speed enforcement tasks such as testifying, licensing requirements, and related case law. Field tests will take place on February 24 from 1—5 p.m.

Fee: $100/person
