Kellogg Community College’s Arts and Communication department is launching a new summer program initiative in partnership with the Bruin Youth Programming Initiative and the Lifelong Learning Department. The program initiative is focused on connecting area youth interested in the performing arts with “real” experiences related to education and careers through music and theater exploration. This exciting new program will provide school age children in grades 5 through 12 an opportunity to develop their musical and theatrical skills through hands on experience. The students will be coached on a variety of topics including group dynamics, mime, creative thinking, creative movement, acting for singers, theatre games, improvisation, vocal health, singing technique, basic music theory, aural development, solo and ensemble performance and much more. Each participant will have an opportunity to take part in large and small group activities. The two week intensive summer workshop will culminate in a full musical presentation which will be open to the public.
Students will have the opportunity to engage fully in every aspect of performance. Students will explore their own voice and vision while experiencing the art of collaboration as an ensemble participant. Accepted students will participate in group sessions and private individualized lessons. All camp participants will work directly with our outstanding internationally recognized artist teaching faculty.
