The KCC Writing Initiative – Better Writing by 2015 is a Writing Across the Curriculum-based (WAC) project at Kellogg Community College with the goal of creating an open and exciting culture of writing, reflection and expression by encouraging low stakes but thoughtful writings. Such a culture will surely benefit students as they prepare for future careers, with the added benefit of positively impacting communication across the KCC community. Ultimately, all students and college employees will participate in — and benefit from — the activities completed and learning that occurs throughout the project.
In short, the KCC Writing Initiative team is currently engaged in carrying out the following:
- Establishing constant faculty participation in developing and maintaining shared writing standards, and in using meaningful writing opportunities in classes at KCC
- Providing resources geared toward “best practices” writing assignments currently used by faculty in the various KCC disciplines
- Providing writing-related professional development opportunities for KCC employees
