The course syllabus is your roadmap to the semester; you will obtain one syllabus for each course you are registered for. You should expect to get the syllabus from your instructor during the first week of classes. A syllabus includes: young female student studying

    • Grading System
    • Required Course Materials – not just books, you may also be required to read articles, websites, magazines, or other related material.

In the Classroom
Instructors generally expect:
  • For students to understand all assignments, even assignments that aren't covered in class. Every assignment is a possible exam question; if you don't understand an assignment and it's not covered in class, be sure to talk with your instructor to make sure you understand every assignment.
  • That students will think critically and independently - develop your own opinions and be able to communicate your thoughts in an educated, respectable manner; don't simply regurgitate thoughts.
Outside the Classroom
  • Time management … learn it, live it.
  • Use a planner, if you don’t already.
Remember, section one of the KCC Student Handbook is a planner.
  • Create a support system: be aware of campus resources; discuss your
    education with family and friends
  • Change your behavior or learn to manage it.
  • Minimize procrastination
  • Find your ideal study location (try studying on campus)
  • Communicate: let your instructors know when/if you’re feeling overwhelmed.
