Assessment Testing

Testing identifies your current skill level and is the basis for developing an educational plan and establishing academic time lines.

If you have an ASSET or ACT score, you can find the COMPASS correlation in the opposite chart.

Please note the different test names and use the appropriate chart section to find your COMPASS score. The fourth column lists the appropriate course placement based on the skill level indicated by your test score.

KCC uses the following 3 resources for placing students in classes:

COMPASS
COMPASS is a computer adaptive assessment that measures skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Students should allow at least two hours for the three skill areas. Please bring photo ID and social security number.

ASSET
If you have previously take the ASSET test, those scores can be used for course placement. If your Assett scores are more than 4 years old, you will want to meet with an academic advisor for placement options.

ACT
If you have taken the ACT exam, your scores should be on your high school transcript. Students need to request that the high school send a copy of the transcript to KCC’s Admissions Office. Please allow two weeks for it to arrive on campus. If you use your ACT scores for placement, you will need to take the COMPASS test for Math.
