CMU and Teacher Education expect students to demonstrate competency in three areas: English Composition, Math and Speech. A grade of "C" or better in the following KCC courses will fulfill these competency requirements: COMM 101, 207, or 210; MATH 121 or higher (except MATH 153) or grade of B- or better is required in ENGL 151 or ENGL 152 for admissions to Teacher Education at CMU.

Music Core Courses:
Music classes will transfer as either a direct equivalent or music credit. If the class transfers as MUS CR, it may require a placement examination. To be used on the major, all classes transferred as music credit must be authorized by the Music Department Chair. This is done as part of the admissions process to the School of Music. Additional Music Education Degree (BME) notes:

Students are required to present 45 clock hours of experience working with children or youth prior to their admission to the Teacher Education program. Please note of these hours must be done in a classroom setting. A minimum gpa of 2.7 is required for admission to teacher education. This is a limited enrollment program.
