Major/Minor Options
Each program choice includes a major and a minor (or three minors). The Teacher Education Department offers the following Majors and Minors:

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Course work with a grade of less than “C” will not be transferable.

  2. A minimum of sixty semester hours exclusive of Community College credit required for graduation.

  3. Teacher education programs require a minimum of 2.50 grade point average with Eastern Michigan University and a minimum of a 2.50 in major or three minors.

  4. Child Psychology or Educational Psychology will not satisfy the 322 Human Development and Learning requirement.

  5. All prospective Elementary/Secondary Education teachers should attend a group advising session at EMU.  Visit the teacher education web site at emich.edu/coe/advising to select an advising date.

  6. We honor the MACRAO Agreement.  Students who have been certified by a signatory community college as having satisfied the general education requirements of the MACRAO Agreement will be required to fulfill only the four additional courses now a part of Eastern Michigan University’s general education requirements: an advanced writing or speaking course or a foreign language composition course; a mathematics course (unless waived by ACT scores); a computer literacy course; and a multicultural course, all from the approved list.  This agreement applies only to basic studies and does not exempt community college students from meeting all curriculum and graduation requirements.
