Group I. Communications Group Requirement

Take ENGL 151 and 152.

Group II. Wellness Group Requirement

Take one of the following: PEC 121, 150 through 160.

Group III. Social Science Group Requirement

Take ANTH 200 or HIST 100, SOCI 201, SOCI 202.

Group IV. Science and Mathematics Group Requirement

Take a minimum of four credit hours in a science lab and a minimum of six credit hours in math and science—choose from at least two of the following subject areas (one must include a laboratory): ASTR 104; BIOL 101, 101L, 110, 111, 112, 116, 200, 201, 201L, 202, 202L, 205, 205L; CHEM 100 or above; GEOG 100, MATH 122-242; PHYS; SCIE 100, 102, 103.
(NOTE: For a B.S. degree at GVSU, take MATH 130, or an A.A. degree at KCC)

Group V. Humanities Group Requirement

Take ART 212 and 213.
Select from the following subject areas: Foreign Language; HIST 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, (if not used in Group III), 106, 201, 202, 203; HUMA 150, 205; LITE 105, 205, 206, 211, 212, 216, 223, 230, 285; MUSI 211; PHIL 201, 202, 250; THEA 121, 122.
(NOTE: For a B.A. degree at GVSU, take a minimum of two semesters of a foreign language.)

  • Degree offered: B.F.A., B.A., B.S. Students seeking the B.A. degree must demonstrate third-semester proficiency in foreign language. Students seeking the B.S. degree should take MATH 130.
  • All transfer credit for studio courses is by portfolio review.
  • Accreditation: National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
