Our Program . . .
is designed to prepare a competent, entry level dental hygienist within two years as a full time student. Because of space restrictions, (we can only admit 20 students each fall) enrollment is selective; that is, we select the top twenty applicants each fall to enter our program. We do not have a waiting list but, we do use an alternate list. If one of the twenty applicants cannot or chooses not to enter our program, then we invite applicants from our alternate list to enroll. Although personal interviews are not required, many applicants like to arrange for a visit to see our facility. Please contact the admissions office (Sedgwick Harris at extension 2620) or the director of our program (Paula Sullivan at extension 2303) if you would like to arrange for a visit. If an applicant who does not secure a position in our dental hygiene program, but who wishes to be considered for the next academic year, that applicant must re-apply after April 1st to be considered for the following year.

There are no prerequisites...
courses needed at this time for admission to our program. Our program is designed so that a newly graduated high school student may enter the program in the fall and successfully complete the program within two years. However, many students have previous college experiences which make the program easier to complete. We strongly recommend that applicants complete KCC's BIOL 201, BIOL 202, CHEM 100 and BIOL 205 before applying to the program.

The following admissions criteria for the dental hygiene program are required:

  • Most recent scholastic performance.
Either High school GPA or GED
           OR
    College cumulative GPA
  • American College Test (ACT)
  • Submit application by March 1

The following KCC courses are strongly recommended before application to the program.

BIOL 201 Human Anatomy
BIOL 202 Human Physiology
BIOL 205 Microbiology
CHEM 100 Chemistry
ENGL 151 Freshman Composition
SOCI 201 Introduction to Sociology
COMM 101 Foundations of Interpersonal Communication
PSYC 201 Introduction to Psychology
Creative Elective

Successful completion of these courses with a "C" or better earns extra points in the admissions process. Additionally, more points are awarded for the science courses BIOL 201, BIOL 202, BIOL 205 and CHEM 100 than for the general education courses ENGL 151, SOCI 201, COMM 101 and PSYC 201.

For transfer equivalents from other colleges/universities, please contact the admissions office.

For questions regarding admissions criteria, please contact Paula Sullivan, Director of Allied Health at 269-965-3931, ext. 2303 or email at sullivanp@kellogg.edu.
