Provisional Admittance

Medical Laboratory Technology Class
Students who need additional college preparatory classes or those who desire a lighter course load may qualify for Provisional Admittance to the program. This is a 3-year curriculum. To apply for Provisional Admittance, you must complete the application procedures. Students granted Provisional Admittance are required to take either CHEM 100 and 101 or BIOL 201 and 202 during the first year. If a grade of C+ or better is earned in these science classes and an overall GPA of greater than 2.00 is obtained, the student will be guaranteed a place in the following year’s Medical Laboratory Technology class.

Fast Track Option

The “Fast-Track” option of the Medical Laboratory Technology program allows students with significant prior coursework to complete the program in 14-16 months. This option is designed as a post-baccalaureate occupational program. The “Fast-Track” still results in an Associate of Applied Science degree being granted by KCC. It allows students to enter the program at 3 different times (August, January and May) if positions are available. To qualify for the “Fast-Track” option, students would have to have completed the following minimum course equivalents:

ENG 151 Freshman Composition 3 credits
ENG 152 Freshman Composition 3 credits
BIOL 201 Human Anatomy 4 credits
BIO 202 Human Physiology 4 credits
CHEM 100 Fundamentals of Chemistry I (with lab) 4 credits
CHEM 101 Fundamentals of Chemistry II (with lab) 4 credits
MATH 100 Pre-Algebra 3 credits
SOCI 201
Introduction to Sociology

or
Citizenship and Humanities Classes

Students beginning in August or January would follow the usual sequence of professional courses. Fast-Track students beginning in May begin their clinical training on a part-time basis in the following Spring semester and complete their training during the first 8 weeks of the second summer semester. A typical sequence of courses for a Fast-Track student would be:

Summer 1 Fall Spring Summer 2
