![]() In 1994, I became certified to teach the Phi Theta Kappa Leadership course which teaches leadership skills from the communicology perspective. I also help train other faculty and staff at KCC on the ITV system (as well as utilize it myself). I teach Foundations of Interpersonal Communication, Business and Technical Communication, Public Speaking, Honors Foundations of Interpersonal Communication (Leadership) and, on occasion, Oral Interpretation. From 1998-2000, I served as the Communication Program Coordinator at KCC. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Oakland University in Rochester, MI in 1991. In 1993, I received my Master of Arts in Communication from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI (Thesis: Differences in Competitor and Adjudicator Perspectives of Competitive Impromptu Speaking). I began working on my Ph.D. at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, but the drive became impossible to schedule. (I graduated from Marian High School in Birmingham, MI. Any alumni out there?) I served as First Vice President for the Michigan Association of Speech Communication (MASC) in 1999 and as the President of MASC in 2000. Publications
I coached Forensics and Debate at KCC from 1993 - 2002 and am still the Director of Forensics and Debate. I continue to host a tournament each fall at the Battle Creek campus.
I served as the Captain (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002...) for KCC's Cereal City Corporate Cup teams. Last year, we took 2nd place in Division II! I married Clint Stout in January of 2002. We live in Battle Creek with our daughter, Josephine, our dogs, Sergeant, Chesty and Gretchen and spend as much time as possible with Clint's two sons, Trevor and Tyler. In my spare time, I enjoy attending sporting events, swimming, weight lifting, sailing, Stair Master, reading, camping, gardening, and occasionally appear in local amateur theatre. I participated in the Leroy Sparks Marathon three times and just may do that again!
