![]() . . . is a Kalamazoo native, flunked out of Western Michigan University in 1984 or 1985. The details are still a little fuzzy. He then served various companies and groups as a janitor, a landscaper, a stockboy, a troubleshooter, a painter, a peddler of horrid mid-eighties musical swill, an occasional writer, and lead guitarist. He returned to school shortly thereafter and earned an Associate of Arts at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and a Bachelor of Arts in English at Grand Valley State University. Then, after getting married and a brief stint as a clerk at the Boy Scouts of America Crossroads of America Council office in Indianapolis (you can't make this stuff up, folks) he also earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Western Michigan University in 1995. He has published short stories in Amaranthus and The Kalamazoo Reader. He serves as a reader for Teaching English in the Two Year College (a journal for college English instructors), and he has taught at Western Michigan University, Southwestern Michigan College, and Kalamazoo Community College. He currently teaches literature and writing at Kellogg Community College, and his current band, Flatbed, is releasing a new album, American Lifepreserver, in November of 2001. He and wife Kate live with their sons Finnegan and Ulysses in Kalamazoo. Contact Information E-Mail: webstert@kellogg.edu |
