KCC hosted the 2011 U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championship & International Challenge August 22-27. Balloonists from all over the country were in Battle Creek for a chance to compete. "Airgasm" owned by Debby Young from Ohio and Ron Frusher all the way from Texas for Curves International were among many other travelers. Throughout the week the balloons could be seen floating over Battle Creek. The main campus served as a refueling area for the balloonists. Various tasks from different daily sites were assigned to the pilots each morning. The exact locations were confidential until the morning meeting, giving every pilot the same chance to complete the mission. On Friday and Saturday to finish off the week, food vendors, kids' activities, bands and entertainment, and a balloon glow.
