The Diversity Committee at KCC is proud to announce its second annual art contest celebrating the diversity of our College and our community. Entries will be accepted beginning December 1, 2011, and the contest will close January 26. Art should reflect diversity or multiculturalism in the community where all individuals are recognized, valued, and respected.

The contest boasts two $500 first prizes in each category and ten honorable mentions of $50. The judges are area artists in various fields including graphic arts, perfomance poetry, dance, photography, and theater. There is no entry fee, and people of all ages are encouraged to enter electronically or in person.

Last year's student winner was Justin Latimer for his painting, "Interconnectivity," which is being used to promote this year's contest. The community winner was Pernell Gibson for his video "Big, Small, Short or Tall...Just Dance" which can be viewed on Youtube. Artists and writers in all media are encouraged to enter. Collaborations are accepted. Last year Marshall Academy had a class project that won an honorable mention.

Executive Director of the Kellogg Community College Foundation Ginger Cutsinger, along with Financial Advisor Dave Oursler, recently helped procure a gift, a massive donation to KCC. The gift was $525,000 donated by Virginia M. Hensley to the Kellogg Community College Foundations in order to create scholarships for students pursuing either Education or Health Care. Every year, two graduating high school seniors will receive full tuition. The Virginia M. Hensley Gold Key will be starting next year. Applications will be produced for the scholarship, which will also provide $24,000 ($12,000 per year) for transfer to any Michigan Public University.
