This course is designed to prepare the student for licensure as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Michigan. This course involves medical procedures and use of equipment as prescribed by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industrial Services. Topics include: legal responsibilities, anatomy, physiology, patient assessment, management of various emergency situations, extrication, and current standards for BEMTs in the field. This course is based on the 1996 updated requirements for Emergency Medical Technician training.
