Michigan Sheriffs' Coordinating & Training Council - MSCTC
To work as a corrections officer with a Michigan County Sheriff Department you will need to complete the MSCTC approved 160–hour Local Correctional Academy. The 2009 Local Correctional Academy (160 hours) will run October 15 to Nov. 12, 2009.

• Class meets 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday
• In-service employees are eligible to take the academy as continuing education credits and may register immediately. The cost will be approximately $650.
• Pre-Service (not yet employed as a corrections officer) must apply by September 20, 2009. Pre-service candidates are not eligible for continuing education credits and must pay regular tuition rates.
The 2009 Re-Entry Academy (96 hours) will run
October 15 to October 30, 2009.
• Class meets 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday
• In-service employees must meet the MSCTC eligibility requirements for the re-entry academy.
• The cost will be approximately $450.
Again, the 160 hour academy is open to pre-service candidates as a 10 credit hour class. Regular tuition rates apply to pre-service candidates.
