Volunteer Fair to be held Feb. 19 at KCC
Around two dozen community organizations are expected to participate in Kellogg Community College spring Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair this month.
The fair, which is free and open to the public, brings representatives from several community organizations to campus twice per year to help individuals learn about ways they can become involved in their communities. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the Kellogg Room on KCC’s North Avenue campus, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek.
Kate DeGraaf, service learning manager at KCC, said the Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair is a great opportunity for service-minded individuals to connect with community partners.
“The fair is a fantastic place to find ways to give back and also become more aware of all the services and resources that are available in our community,” DeGraaf said. “Giving back has never been easier.”
A service learning endorsement became a requirement for many KCC students pursuing an associate degree at KCC beginning in the fall of 2012, and students completed around 2,000 hours of service learning work during the fall 2013 semester. The Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair is an easy way for service learning students in particular to make connections that could assist them in completing their service learning requirements in the future.
