EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION - Open Entry Requirements

Student clearances and student liability insurance information:

Each ECE student must complete the Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry (CA/NR) form and receive clearance from the Michigan Department of Human Services. These forms are collected by instructors and kept on file in the Early Childhood Office.

Students may not be able to begin field experience components of the courses until the form is processed and turned into the Early Childhood Education Program office.

ECE students completing field experiences and internships must follow the State of Michigan laws in place for each approved site. The employers at the site usually administer these regulations. Regulations may include completion of physicals, Abuse and neglect forms, TB testing, among other requirements. If this policy is approved, then students will be informed.

ECE students purchase student liability insurance through a fee on the ECE courses. This liability insurance is not intended to cover personal liability for students but is in place to help protect the college. If a student has a question about this coverage, then he or she should contact the ECE Program Director.

The Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry (CA/NR) form can be found on the last page of this guide.
