INDUSTRIAL TRADES AND FINANCIAL AID
The Federal Government mandates that students enrolled in programs with “non-standard” terms, such as the Industrial Trades programs offered at Kellogg Community College, be handled differently than “standard” programs.
Students enrolled in an Industrial Trades Associate of Applied Science Program are handled differently than students enrolled in an Industrial Trades Certificate program.
Associate Degree Program:
Students enrolled in an Associate of Applied Science program will be considered enrolled in a “standard” program due to the combination of on-campus and industrial trades coursework required. Registration and completion of industrial trades coursework is expected within the beginning and ending dates of the 16 week semesters established for on-campus coursework. Students are expected to earn a passing grade for each module by the end of each semester registered. Financial aid will be awarded and disbursed as though the student is attending all on-campus courses.
Certificate Program:
Students enrolled in a Certificate program will be considered in a “non-standard” program. Enrollment in a Certificate program is not confined to the 15 week semesters. Payment periods are established and Federal Pell Grant disbursements can only be made within established payment periods. Students applying for federal student loans will be assigned a loan period that requires 24 credits completed and 32 weeks of instruction. The first disbursement will be made at the beginning of the loan period and the second disbursement will be made after completion of 12 credits and 16 weeks of instruction. Loan amounts will be prorated for periods of enrollment less than the standard.
