Computer Requirements

The following are the requirements for computer software and Internet connection for Blackboard.  Your computer equipment should meet these needs for Blackboard to function properly. To see if your computer has the minimally required software, click here to  Detect Your Technology.

Internet Connection and Web Browser

• Reliable Internet Service Provider
• 56K modem or higher
• Web Browsers: Recommend browsers include Internet Explorer version 7.0, Safari 1.2 or above, or Firefox version 2.0 or above. Browser must be able to read frames, and support Java and Java Script.

E-mail account

• E-mail program that is capable of sending and receiving attachments
• KCC provides to students e-mail that meet these requirements.

Word processing software

• Word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Corel Word Perfect, WordPad).  The software should be able to create and open RTF files (rich text format files).

Other technical needs

The following software and/or hardware may be required in specific online courses.  Your instructor will inform you of such requirements at the start of the course:

• CD writer
• Adobe Acrobat Reader (this allows you to view/read PDF files)
• Quick Time
• Real Player
• Windows Media
• Java
• Flash/Shockwave player
