Components of a Blackboard Course

 

Navigating the Course Menu Links

The table below includes information on the Course Menu and the components of a course site that are usually accessed from each button. The Course Menu in a specific course may look different (i.e., color and shape) than those found below. Additionally, instructors may choose to design the Course Menu in their course by adding or deleting buttons or changing button names. Check each of your courses to be sure you are familiar with the button design.

Area

Description

Home Page Button

This is the new default start page for new courses but can be changed by the instructor. This Home Page (dashboard) has several course modules.

Information Button

This area provides information about the course and how it will be conducted. Normally you will find the course syllabus in this area.

Content Button

This is where the content to be learned and the course activities should be located.This usually includes descriptive materials such as assignments and projects.

Discussions Button

The Discussion Board is a tool for sharing thoughts and ideas about class materials. The Discussion Board is made up of forums that may appear anywhere in the course.

Groups Button

The Course Groups feature allows Instructors to create groups of students within a course.

Tools Button

This area includes numerous student-focused tools. One of the most important allows your to check your class grades.

Help Button

This button will assist you with finding answers to your blackboard questions.

My Places Link

This link allows a user to easily access a variety of places in the system.

Home Link

This link will take the users (instructors and students) to the KCC homepage.

I.S. Help Website Link

Clicking the help link will direct instructors and students to the help desk web site.

Logout Link

Clicking this link will instantly log out a user (instructor or student) from the Blackboard server.
