XP Pre-Setup Checklist - Wireless

Read the following and perform any actions required to bring your laptop into compliance.  Check the box next to each item as you complete them.

Does the computer have Windows XP?

(Start > right click My Computer > click Properties > Under “System” will give you the operating system running on your computer)

Does the computer have wireless capability?

(If not sure, check your wireless network adapter – see next step)

Is your wireless network adapter compatible with our network?

Wireless adapter information (Start > right click My Computer > click Properties > click on the Hardware tab > click Device Manager > click the + sign in front of Network Adapters) What Network Adapter do you have?  Check the compatibility from the wireless website

Is third-party wireless software disabled?

(i.e. Intel Proset, Netgear, Rangemax, Belkin wireless client etc.) See screencast in checklist and wireless configuration setup.

Is the user a Computer Administrator?

(Start > Control Panel > User Accounts)

Is IE configured to automatically detect proxy settings?

(Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab > Lan Settings > Automatically Detect Settings box should be checked)

Has the user created a restore point?

(Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Create a Restore Point then click Next) In the Restore point description box type in the words KCC wireless client install then click create.  After the restore point is created, click close.

User should know this will disable fast user switching in XP

(If there are different user accounts setup on the PC, the XP welcome screen will no longer function as before).
