Your Information Destination!

The Internet has allowed us the ability to access an almost limitless quantity of information. This has proved to be an invaluable resource for researchers the world over.

There is a problem with data of this magnitude—how can you decide which of these many resources are the best for your particular needs? After all, quality is just as important as quantity!

That’s where we can help you! Helping you to locate and use information is what we do, whether the resource you need is across the room or across the globe.

Depending on your needs and the time you have available, we have a variety of resources to choose from:

Our Book Collections
will allow you to select from a wide assortment of subject areas and points of view. For your convenience, we have divided our books between the Current Collection on Level 2, and the earlier “classics” on Level 1 (Ground Floor). Current KCC students may use their validated IDs to check out books for three weeks.

Our Periodical Collections
bring together key journals in many of KCC’s programs, along with popular and news-oriented magazines of interest. Relax and enjoy current editions in our Leisure Reading area. Recent years are bound together on shelves, and older publications are available in microfiche.

Our Media Collections
can be used for leisure or course-related activities. Videotapes and DVDs are available at the Check-Out Desk. Leisure videos may be used in the building, and classroom use of videos can be scheduled for delivery by contacting your instructor. Also, make sure to take a look at our CD collection (including jazz, classical and spoken word) on Level 4. You may listen to CDs in the building, or check them out for one week.

Our Electronic Collections
include many of the most exciting resources available in libraries today, headquartered at our LRC website at http://www.kellogg.edu/library. From the best of the Internet to products available only through the LRC, we are able to offer you a wide variety of selections, including:

  • the Library Catalog, serving as your guide to our book and media holdings

  • numerous periodical indexes, including full text and/or location information to current journal articles in many subject fields. These may be printed out at workstations, saved or sent via e-mail to your account

  • our Digital Libraries collection, offering expert selection and guidance to the best Internet resources in many fields of study

  • the LRC @ Home collection, bringing you many of the electronic resources you may need when you are away from campus

  • high-speed Internet service, providing open access to a world of web resources in both the computer commons and the Reference Area/level 4 workstations.

Our Reference Service

Confused? Stop by our Information Desk on Level 3 (Main Floor) to get the expert assistance you need in getting and staying on track. Our Reference and Law Collections may help you find those fugitive facts in short order!

Our Interlibrary Loan Service and MeLCat
are just what you need if the book or journal article you need is not part of the LRC collections. If you give us the time (7 to 10 days, on average), we can extend our reach to libraries all over the world to provide it for you. All you have to do is fill out a request, either in person or on our website.

Our Collaboratories
provide space for group efforts involving small numbers of students on a first-come-first-served basis. Each self-contained room offers you a quiet space to work together with your classmates without interruption.

Our leisure areas
showcase some of the best space on campus! The Leisure Reading Area on Level 1 (Ground Floor) offers you great reading light in a comfortable setting near our bestsellers, paperbacks and current magazines.

So...
Let us work with you to provide the resources you need for your course work or personal pursuits. Information professionals are always available to help you during our hours of operation to ensure your success, whether you are with us in the building, on the phone, or on our web site. No matter how big or small the project, we at the LRC want to be–
