Disc Golf    NEW HPER 89A-37
Did you know that the Professional Disc Golf Association’s 2008 World Championships were held right here in Battle Creek at the Fort Custer State Park? Disc golf is a fun, active sport that anyone can do. The object of the game is to complete each hole in the fewest number of strokes, or throws. Join the designer, builder and tournament director of the world championship course in this great new class where you’ll be introduced to the rules, equipment and techniques used in the game of disc golf. Each week you’ll meet at the Begg Park Disc Golf Course where you’ll put your new skills into practice. Your course fee includes everything you’ll need to get started, please dress for the weather since most class sessions will be held outdoors and disc golf can be played rain or shine. Note: First class session (Sept. 19) will be held at KCC’s RMTC, 405 Hill Brady Road, Battle Creek.

Treat yourself to the relaxation experience of a lifetime! Hatha Yoga is a gentle approach to health, integrating body/mind/spirit while releasing accumulated stress and tension. You will experience pre-yoga warm-ups, yoga postures, meditation, and breathing exercises. Learn to elicit the relaxation response and incorporate yoga into your daily life. Perhaps you’ve seen the TV show where Jillian and Bob are kicking butt and taking names? Well, we’re here to bring you a workout based on this popular TV show! In every class you’ll do a warm up, kick into some cardio with a focus on the core, followed by strength-building interval moves. Wrap it up with a cool down stretch and you’ll be ready to focus on a healthy diet and staying strong! Please bring a set of hand weights (2-8 pounds, whatever is most comfortable for you) along with an exercise ball, and wear comfortable clothing. Note: We have space to store your weights and exercise ball.

Belly dancing is a no-impact exercise that burns fat, increases flexibility, and complements the natural movements of the body. Uplifting, confidence- boosting and exhilarating, belly dancing is an exercise that not only tones and sculpts the body, but it also improves coordination and stimulates circulation. Your instructor is Darlene Jones, a certified fitness instructor and belly dancer. For women, personal safety is often a concern–the unavoidable parking lot, the walk at dusk, the elevator, an appointment in a building that looks too empty. In this workshop you’ll gain the confidence and practical skills that can help you avoid becoming a victim and learn effective techniques to fend off an attacker. Beginning Ashtanga Yoga HPER 89P-35
This method of Yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures–a process producing intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. Your instructor, Mia Morley, holds an Ashtanga Yoga Teaching Certificate from Chicago Yoga Center through the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. Please wear comfortable exercise clothing and bring a yoga mat, a yoga block or pillow, a blanket and a hand towel to class.

Do you have someone in your life that is dealing with the physical pain that comes from aging or illness? Comfort touch is a style of massage that gives special consideration to the physical and emotional needs of the elderly and/or ill, and its primary intention is to provide comfort through techniques that promote deep relaxation and relief from pain. It can also be used to relieve the effects on chronic stress in our daily lives. Join Becky Porter, RN, BSN, and certified massage therapist, as we explore the techniques that can provide comfort and connection on both a physical and emotional level to those we care about. If you work in a hospital, hospice, a skilled nursing facility or home care you may find this workshop especially helpful to enhance the level of care you provide to your clients.
