Summer Youth Camps For 7th & 8th Graders
Academic Camps are designed for students in or entering 7th or 8th grades. You may register your student for half-day camps, or select both a morning and afternoon camp and we will provide a supervised room for them to bring and eat their lunch.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Math – STEM Camps
Calling all Scientists and Engineers of Tomorrow - Sustainability and Renewable Energy Exploration! CAMP CI18M-01
Do you want to understand how we can all live creating less negative environmental impact on the earth? Ever wonder how to best conserve and protect our water resources? Want to learn about ways that solar, wind, water and hydrogen systems work and can be utilized in keeping our planet green for generations to come? This class will incorporate individual and group projects as well as lab experiments to examine water conservation, solar cooking, and renewable energy options in the world around us! Join us for this 16-hour camp designed for students going into 7th and 8th grades - it promises to open up a whole new world of fun, learning and even career options!

Beyond Science Fiction - The World of Lego Robotics! CAMP CI18-02
Everyone loved Legos as a child, but what if you could use specialized Lego kits to actually begin to build and use robots!? Using creativity, imagination and Legos students will work together to find ways of conquering obstacles in robotics planning and design. Challenges of robotic programming will also be focused on using these fun and exciting Lego NXT robots! This 16-hour camp will engage students going into 7th and 8th grades in a fun and interactive learning experience that will expose them to the world of robotics and help develop the engineers of tomorrow!

Summer Science Launch Pad Part 1: Rockets, Gasses and Experiments - Oh My! CAMP CI18M-03
This super fun summer camp will incorporate a mix of sciences including Chemistry, Technology, Engineering and Math so that participants can learn how they are all interrelated. Each session has individual and group projects and lab experiments showcasing how science is important in everyday life. One topic will be focused on each day with students working in groups to do things like dissect golf balls, use canned food to design a sculpture, look at how math is used to design everything from pens to iPhones and discuss how technology is used in different careers. This 16-hour camp will engage students going into 7th and 8th grades in a fun and interactive learning experience that will open up a whole new world for them! Summer Science Launch Pad Part 2: More Rockets, Gasses and Experiments - Oh My! CAMP CI18M-04
Part two of this action packed camp will engage students in even more experiments and group activities! Focusing on a different topic each day will allow students to explore things like kid patents and inventions, math in rubber band bungee cord simulations and extreme gas expansion! This 16-hour camp will engage students going into 7th and 8th grades in brand new kinds of fun and interactive learning experiences that are sure to get them excited and eager to learn more! Language Arts Camps
Finding your Inner Poet - Ekphrastic Prose & Printmaking CAMP CJ19M-01
Not sure what this kind of creativity entails? Ekphrasis refers to the graphic, often dramatic, description of a visual work of art. Join us for this inventive and artistic experience that will find inspiration in not only images and works of art but also from deep within the imagination of participants! In this workshop students will generate Prose Poems and Flash Fiction pieces, create images based on stories and poems and explore lowcost ways to do printmaking at home. This 16-hour camp will engage students going into 7th and 8th grades in an creative and fun experience that will have them diving into the depths of their imagination!

Behind The Wall - Creating Poetry and Literature through Journaling CAMP CJ19M-02
This class is devoted to the inner workings of human nature through analysis of short stories, excerpts from other writings and poetry from all eras. Students will journal daily with the help of Instructor writing prompts related to the readings shared in class. Questions will be posed to help students think about the topics they are exposed to and help them develop original pieces based on this new learning. This 16-hour camp will engage students going into 7th and 8th grades in a fun and challenging learning experience that will help them channel the creativity they already have and find way to express themselves through writing.

The Real Deal: Creative Non-Fiction Writing - Zines, Bookbinding, and Artist's Books CAMP CJ19M-03
In this workshop students will explore different styles of creative nonfiction writing with a special focus on do-it-yourself or homemade 'zines (as in an abbreviation of fanzine, or magazine) and books. Participants will also learn techniques for bookbinding and making artist's books, which are defined as book-like objects intended to be works of art themselves! This 16-hour camp will engage students going into 7th and 8th grades in an exciting and cooperative learning experience that will have them using their imagination in countless new and exciting ways!

Bring Your Voice! Poetry and Spoken Word Performance Pieces CAMP CJ19M-04
In this high energy course students will devote their time to creating and producing poetry and spoken word pieces. Daily journaling will serve as the basis for developing original works that can be turned into spoken word poetry. The instructor will provide prompts to help students think more critically about what they are writing and clips from poetry slams/ open mics/ spoken word will be watched and analyzed. At the end of the week the option of a final performance will be offered for those who want to showcase their work. This 16-hour camp will engage students going into 7th and 8th grades in a high energy learning experience that will have participants thinking outside the box and finding their voice!
