Welcome to Kellogg Community College Early Childhood Literacy Website - sponsored by KCC Early Childhood Education Program
When does a child learn to read?
Many people might say in kindergarten or first grade. But researchers have toldus that children can begin to learn reading and writing starting at birth and
some say even in the womb during prenatal development.
This website provides parents, students, teachers and
community members an early childhood literacy forum.
Why is it so important to build early learners together?
“A child who can read is a child who can learn. And a childwho can learn is a child who can succeed in school
and in life.”
Secretary of Education - Margaret Spellings
