Suggestions for reading with your preschooler
First, be comfortable, cozy and relaxed - both of you!
Next, make sure your child can see the book the right way up as you read.
- Point to the words as you read.
- When reading aloud, don't be afraid to 'ham it up'. Make different voices for different characters.
- Ask your child to guess what will be on the next page of the book you are reading together. Your child will learn that events happen in a sequence.
- Talk about details and the samll changes in the pictures of the book.
- If your preschooler gets bored and walks away, it's time to stop reading!
