Gerald Blanhard
Lyric baritone, Gerald Blanchard has made appearances with numerous opera companies and music festivals throughout North America including the Grand Teton Music Festival Opera (Wyoming), Lake Afton Early Music Festival (Pennsylvania), Opera Delaware, Bel Canto Lyric Opera Company of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), Dorian Opera Theatre (Iowa), Music Society of Midland (Michigan), Central Michigan University's Opera Workshop Ensemble, The Delaware Humanities Forum Players, Michigan State University Opera Theatre, West Chester University Opera Theatre (Pennsylvania) and BCV Performing Artist Opera and Concert Artists of which he is founder and Artistic Director. ...On the concert stage,

Mr. Blanchard has made appearances with such notable organizations as the Philomel Chamber Orchestra (PA), The Philadelphia Orchestra and Choral Arts Society (PA), Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra (MI), Lake St. Clair Symphony (MI), Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra (MI), Chester County Brass (PA), Northeastern Philharmonic (PA), West Chester Symphony Orchestra (PA), Kennett Symphony Orchestra (PA), Shaw String Ensemble (PA), The Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra (MI), members of the Adrian Symphony (MI), members of the Flint Symphony Orchestra (MI), Festival Chorus and Orchestra of Central Michigan, Sacred Heart Chorale of Montreal, The Plymouth Oratorio Society and Eastern Michigan University Choirs, University of Rochester Choirs, Singing City Chorale of Philadelphia and numerous others. ...Mr. Blanchard has concretized throughout the United States, Europe and Canada. Many of his performances have been broadcasted on Public Radio and television stations around the country, including a recent vocal recital featured on PBS station WCMU in Michigan. With a love for new musical projects and collaborations, Mr. Blanchard has appeared in concert with Jazz greats Rodney Whitaker, Wyclif Gordon, Anthony White and Mr. Rick Roe. On the new works opera stage, Mr. Blanchard created the role of "King Spara" in Opera Delaware's 1997 world premier of Evlynn Swennson's opera "The Legend of Redwall Abbey." During the summer of that same year, he also created the role of William Still (father of the Underground Railroad) in the world premier of Joyce Hill-Stoner and Scott F. Mason's musical documentary "Delaware's Railroad to Freedom" which aired on PBS stations throughout the east coast.

Mr. Blanchard received the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from West Chester University's School of Music in Pennsylvania and the Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Central Michigan University's School of Music in Mt. Pleasant. At present, he is a Doctoral Candidate and former Graduate TA for the voice and opera program at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan

Mr. Blanchard most recently studied under the guidance of Daniel Washington (baritone), Dr. Robert Bracey (tenor) and Dr. Jeffrey Foote (basso cantante). Other teachers have included the renowned "Teatra Alla Scalla" basso profundo Julian Rodescu, coloratura soprano; Wendy Miller, lyric soprano; Jane Wyss and lyric tenor; William Decker. Mr. Blanchard has also coached with tenor Paul Spencer Atkins, mezzo-soprano Marianne Cassiello (Curtis Institute) mezzo-soprano Karen Brunssen (Northwestern University), and renowned Metropolitan Opera stars; tenor George I. Shirley, soprano Roberta Peters and bass/baritone Sherrill Milnes. During the summer of 2002, Mr. Blanchard embarked on several artistic projects including a six-week intensive study with the renowned American Metropolitan Opera tenor, Mr. George I. Shirley on the performance of African American Art Song repertoire.

Recent engagements and activities have included the recording of his debut solo compact disc "With A Song in My Heart" on Bluegriffen Records, performances of Carmina Burana, Saint Saen's Christmas Oratorio and Schubert's Mass in G, Mozart's Requiem Mass (Battle Creek Symphony) and a host of recitals and lectures. Operatic engagements included the role of "Don Alfonso" in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte with the Michigan State University Opera Theatre. Fall 2008, Mr. Blanchard will perform the role of Yamadori (Madama Butterfly) with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra. Other engagements will include performances of Handel's Messiah, faculty artist recitals and master classes.
