Kellogg Community College
Photography & Multimedia Internship Program Guidelines
This form to be reviewed by the host & student intern
The Kellogg Community College Photography & Multimedia Internship Program is an integral component for
completion of the Associate in Applied Science in Photography & Multimedia degree program within the
Department of Arts and Communication at Kellogg Community College. KCC provides 3 credits per semester
to students for internships that directly relate to their field of study. Students may enroll in the internship class
after they have secured an internship host, typically during their last semester of study.
The attached materials explain individual internship placements and what is expected of both internship host
and student intern. The aim of the internship is to provide an intensive work experience for competitive entry
and placement in a profession that involves the arts. Students will be able to utilize the experience and
information gathered during the internship experience in their individual career endeavors. Each student will
be responsible for securing his/her own internship; KCC will provide any assistance necessary to secure the
internship. The student is required to spend one semester or its equivalent as an intern at one institution,
for a minimum of 120 hours concurrent with the ART 296 class sessions or up to 160 hours should the
ART 296 class not be offered during semester. Placement schedules, hours, and duties are individualized,
and based on students’ goals, programs of study, and hosts needs.
Students will be required to enroll in ART 296, which will meet as a class weekly throughout the semester to
discuss internship experiences (duties, working conditions, progress, any changes or unsatisfactory conditions,
or breaches of the letter of agreement) and develop professional materials relevant to the arts. A site visit
might be made by the internship coordinator while the internship is in progress, and at any other time needed
by the intern or host. This course provides supervision while fostering professional practices. Classroom
activities may include reports on assigned readings, peer discussions, self-assessment activities, guest lectures,
fieldtrips, professional portfolio and promotional materials development. ART 296 is meant to provide a
supportive environment in which to examine issues, address concerns, develop skills, and receive necessary
guidance pertinent to the internship experience and process. Student Registration Procedures
Students should locate and obtain an internship placement by vocal agreement from said host institution in the
semester prior to the internship. After internship placement is obtained, and prior to internship class
registration, students must meet with their program advisor to discuss the validity of this placement.
The student will prepare the following in advance of the meeting:
1. Name of desired institution for internship
2. Relevance of this institution to degree program
3. Specifics of institution duties during internship
4. Career goal statement
After the meeting, submission of all the proper forms, and approval for student registration in the ART 296 Internship & Career Development class will take place. This class will meet at the time listed in the course catalog throughout the duration of the internship.
