Welcome!

Group of students

Thanks for Coming to Our Site!

This is the web site for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan. Our program opened in 1971 with the first graduating class entering the clinical community in 1973.

We are very proud of the fact that we were one of the first programs in the country at the time and the first in Michigan.  Each year we welcome students from around the state and consistently from other areas of the country to take part in our two-year (five semester) program that culminates in an Associate of Applied Science degree.

We are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education. Information on our acceptance and graduation rates and on pass rates of program graduates on licensing examinations is posted on the web site for the American Physical Therapy Association at www.apta.org

Please take time to look through our web site for information on admissions, to view photographs of the activities that students take part in throughout the curriculum, and generally to become familiar with our program.  For questions, please contact our Program Coordinator, Julie Roberts, PT, MS at (269) 965-3931 ext. 2270 or you can reach her by email at robertsj@kellogg.edu  .

PTA Licensure in Michigan

Senate Bill 151 will be heard by the Senate Health Policy Committe in early March. At that time it will be determined whether it will be sent on to the full senate floor. With the current economic issues in the state and country, there are many issues currently pending in the Senate, which could postpone the hearing of our bill.

If it passes, there is grandfathering for PTAs who graduated prior to January 1, 2008 in regard to having to take the national exam. The question at this point is the timing. If it does not pass, or if for some unknown reason the grandfathering clause is removed, then all PTAs will need to take the licensure exam in another state in order to treat Medicare patients after January 1, 2010.

The MPTA is strongly suggesting that all PTAs make plans to take the licensure exam before the end of the year. They are putting together review courses, and making review texts available to MPTA members at a discounted price.

There is no way to know at this time what will happen, and so it is much less of a "gamble" for PTAs to prepare for the test now, and take it in enough time to have results by January 1st of 2010.

If you have questions, please contact the MPTA office at (800) 242-8131 or e-mail them at mpta@mpta.com
