Most importantly, many RMTC processes and procedures are different from standard KCC process and procedures because of our non-traditional style of instruction. Those differences are detailed in the schedule and orientation, as well as in the 6 Steps for Success which follow.
After you have applied for admission you will meet with a program instructor to discuss the certificate you are pursuing at KCC. If you are considering an Associate in Applied Science, you will meet the Director of the RMTC after meeting with the program instructor. You may then be referred to an academic advisor on the main campus. At this advising appointment you will select your first semester classes and will then be ready to move to the final step which is registration and payment for classes.
The staff in Academic Advising will use the personal information found on your application, assessment testing, and high school transcript to discuss the degree or certificate that you wish to pursue at KCC. If you plan to transfer to a four-year college, the advisor will help you identify a transfer guide that will outline that process.

All first-time students pursuing a degree or certificate are required to attend an orientation session for new students. You may complete an online orientation or attend an in-person orientation session on the Battle Creek campus.

You may also attend a one-stop new student orientation session which includes COMPASS testing, academic advising, applying for financial aid, as well as registration for classes and payment processing. One-stop sessions will take 3 to 4 hours to complete.

Students applying to a certificate or degree program are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Financial aid includes scholarships, grants, loans and work-study. If you have questions

COMPASS is a computer adaptive placement test that measures skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. COMPASS scores are a prerequisite for many KCC courses. ACT English and reading scores may be used for placement instead of the COMPASS writing skills and reading components. All first-time students pursuing a degree are required to complete the COMPASS prior to scheduling their classes. Prior to taking the COMPASS you must have applied for admission to KCC. You should allow at least two hours for the three basic skills assessments. Bring photo ID with you to test.

Now that you have completed the first five steps as a new student, you may register for classes and complete the payment process. All students must register for Industrial Trades modules in person (photo ID required) at the RMTC.
