KCC’s Social Science Department offers instruction in a broad range of subject areas which are viewed as essential to a solid general
education. Employers are seeking employees who can demonstrate skills in working with others, problem solve, make sound decisions, and adapt to
change. All of these abilities are considered crucial in the ever-changing workplace of today.
It is quite likely that the vast majority of people entering the workplace at this time will change their careers 5 to 10 times in their worklife. The ability to adapt in this way requires skills which are the focus of the social sciences. Our rapidly changing economy in light of the global perspective, industry relocations, an emphasis on participatory management, and other social and political forces, all contribute to the need for today’s and future workers being able to think, analyze and pursue knowledge they need to help themselves and their employers thrive.
