President's Statement
Dr. Ed Haring, President of Kellogg Community College, would like to share the following thoughts with you.
Welcome to Kellogg Community College. As part of your orientation to the college, I would like to share with you some of my thoughts and beliefs.
The foundation of my leadership philosophy is built on a deep-seated belief in value, importance and dignity of each and every individual with whom I come into contact. Each of us has a role to play to assure that our students are meeting their goals and each of those roles is vital to that end.
I believe individuals, regardless of assigned or legislated opportunities, are all entitled to high quality academic and technical programming and processes that support the students in their learning or training. I believe high achievement goals should be fostered for both students and employees. Programs and processes must be of high quality; students must be assisted toward their goals with sensitivity and caring; and area employers must receive well rounded college program or course completers.
I believe in providing others with access to the decision-making process and in delegating responsibility and authority when appropriate. My approach to working with people is characterized by participatory input, high performance expectations, and group-centered control. In working directly with individuals, I believe a situational approach is the most effective and the fairest. I also realize that ultimately the responsibility for decisions that are made within the college framework lies with me.
I believe respect for the individuals and their contributions must be maintained. Dedicated college employees best develop in an environment of mutual concerns, trust and respect. A college cannot operate successfully without its primary resource: namely dedicated employees. A college will not be successful unless it is focused on student learning.
I trust that each of you will assume responsibility for your own actions and do the right things as well as do things right. I trust that you will value your work here, you will value each other, and you will fulfill your responsibilities with enthusiasm, confidence and integrity.
Kellogg Community College is a wonderful organization. Its strength is in its staff and students. I wish you the greatest of success in your work with us. I hope you are part of the college for a very long time and invite you to share your thoughts and ideas with me as you discover ways to make us better.
