This course is a combination of dental hygiene theory and clinical practice. During theory class emphasis is placed on disease prevention and health promotion strategies. The course project includes designing a behavior modification plan, implementation of that plan and a written research component. Studies include cariology, the use of antimicrobials and chemotherapeutic agents, as well as tobacco cessation programs. In the clinical aspect of the course, the student gains experience in the implementation of preventative and educational techniques through requirements in treating adult and child patients. Lab Fee
